Help Us Out, Please

Our Foreshore/Dock Volunteer Team has started its weekly dock maintenance and construction activities. We've noticed a disturbing decline in tidiness around the dock: one serious example is the ~15 litres of presumed used engine oil stored in miscellaneous containers alongside the workshop (see photo).

This poses several problems:

  • risk of leakage into the ocean

  • the containers are unlabeled and therefore the contents are only known to the person who filled them. Disposing of them properly requires knowing what is in them.

  • a volunteer has to take time out from their legitimate CFSA tasks to get rid of someone else's waste.

Your moorage privileges do not include free housekeeping & cleaning services. YOU are responsible for waste you generate - in the case of used oil, it can be disposed of at Hartland. Some retailers and garages take used oil, or if you speak nicely to the STC staff, they also have a used oil collection barrel that you may be able to use during working hours.

Please remove your containers ASAP.

If you have other items lying on the docks, please remove them too. Last week a small pile of various stuff was impeding access to a fire extinguisher - so it's not just a matter of being an eyesore, it's also sometimes dangerous.

Thanks.
