Missing Aluminum Plate

The weekday Dock Crew volunteers have been busy reassembling D dock with an all-metal joint. Unfortunately, about 3 weeks ago a piece of aluminum plate about 1m long went missing from D dock. Below is a photo of its twin. If anyone knows where it is or what happened to it, please let me know. Thanks!

Fundraising

Looking at the weather tomorrow, being favorable for diving. I will at the club at 0930 to change zincs. Any member who wishes to have their zincs changed please message me, 236-508-6531 and I will put you on the list. This being a fundraiser for Able Sail Victoria I ask that you donate, minimum $75 for two shaft zincs changed, $100 for shaft and propeller zincs.

Where we are scheduling multiple boats and are not getting out of the water between boats you will need to be at your boat to hand us the zincs you require changed.

Dock Movement Monitors

Position loggers mounted on posts
Position loggers mounted on posts

We'll be monitoring dock movements over the stormy winter season, using these Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Loggers. You'll see them mounted on posts, with several LEDs blinking merrily. The purpose is to measure how much movement the various docks experience during high winds, to help design the joints between the docks and the spine.

Currently we have deployed a logger at the N and S ends of A dock, and the E and W ends of the Spine. The loggers record data to an accuracy of about +/- 50cm, once per second. They don't transmit any data - just record it on an internal memory card. For more technical details, google the logger "Columbus P-10 Pro"

Please don't disturb the loggers. I'll provide updates of our data as we collect and process it. Thanks!

Here's a look at the first bit of data, during the period 6 - 8 Nov 2025. We had a blow of about 25 kt (based on WeatherUnderground: Constance Cove) on 7 Nov, from the SE. I've overlaid the GNSS positions (black circles) on a satellite GoogleMaps layer. The max range of motion recorded was 7m.

Lots more experimenting and recording to come. Next I'll record at several of the rock anchors, to confirm the magnitude of position drift from the GNSS. We'll also want to record at D dock, and during some stronger winds.
