Dear CFSA Members,
On the heels of a fantastic summer marked by racing successes and memorable cruising adventures across our coast, I am writing to share an important and challenging update regarding the future of our physical footprint.
Evolving defence policy and the future Royal Canadian Navy Fleet has promoted CFB Esquimalt leadership to reevaluate security policy/process and real property allocations within the Base. As part of this process, CFB Esquimalt staff has asked our executive team to begin exploring options for transitioning out of our current marina location at Lang Cove. This is not an eviction, it is a signal that there are significant infrastructure challenges ahead and in order to maintain the long-term viability of the club we need to determine the best path forward.
We fully recognize that news of this scale brings a natural sense of uncertainty, concern, and disruption. A potential transition like this may be a major undertaking, and if executed we know it will create significant churn and adjustment within our club community. Please know that the executive does not take this news lightly, and we appreciate the emotional weight and practical impact this carries for each of you.
How We Are Approaching This Development:
Current Operations Remain Stable: There are no immediate disruptions to current mooring or scheduled sailing events. Updates will be communicated often as we move through the assessment process. As mentioned before, we have not received an eviction notice or a timeline.
Evaluating Options: The executive team will in the coming weeks focused on identifying alternative locations and partnerships, with the key goal of securing long-term sustainability of the CFSA in or out of Esquimalt Harbour. I expect these options will be discussed with the Base Commander in Late September or Early October.
Open Dialogue & Support: We are committed to full transparency. We know you will have questions, ideas, and concerns, and we want to ensure everyone has space to be heard as we navigate this transition together.
SGM. An SGM is scheduled for September 25th at 18:00 in the Rainbow Room at the Chief’s and Petty Officers Mess. The meeting will be called to order at 1830. This will serve three purposes:
Communication & Transparency. Membership will have the ability to ask questions of the Executive so that everyone knows where we stand; and
Feedback. We need to ensure the Base Commander knows what the membership wants long term to ensure that we focus our efforts on the right lines of operations.
Financial Approval. A motion will be brough forward to approve $25,000.00 to be spend in support of assessments of potential locations or partnerships.
Change of this magnitude is never easy, but the true strength of the CFSA has always been its people, not its infrastructure. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support of one another as we steer through this next chapter together.
